This Entrepreneur & Cancer Thriver Founded Her Company From a Hospital Bed — Alula CEO/Founder, Liya Shuster-Bier
—
Despite the trillions of dollars invested in cancer research, and the amazing strides in curative medicine, our healthcare system continues to ignore cancer patients’ often agonizing experience dealing with the symptom burden of cancer and cancer treatment.
These issues aren’t just quality-of-life threatening— they are life-threatening. Unmanaged symptoms impact patients’ motivation to complete treatment, and ultimately, their chances of surviving cancer.
Oncologists are paid and trained to treat cancer, not to manage the countless ancillary health conditions treatment can cause. And while medical professionals are able to provide thoughtful insight on what to expect while undergoing treatment, little is done to help patients actually prepare for how to deal with the physical and emotional toll. No one in our current healthcare system is incentivized to help cancer patients manage the everyday, debilitating realities of cancer.
Alula's Mission: Alula is the first company to truly help cancer patients and caregivers navigate symptom burden and everyday care outside of the hospital.
About our guest, Liya Shuster-Bier:
